Hawaii Canines for Independence

Hawaii Canines for Independence is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that provides people with physical disabilities specially trained dogs that will give them the freedom and confidence to live more independent lives.

Hawaii Canines for Independence specializes in training highly skilled Service Dogs for children and adults with physical disabilities that limit their mobility. Service Dogs assist individuals with physical disabilities by performing tasks such as opening doors, pulling wheelchairs, retrieving dropped items, and turning on and off lights. Lifetime follow up training is provided free of charge to ensure the continued success of each team.

Hawaii Canines for Independence also trains and places other types of Assistance Dogs such as Skilled Companion and Social Therapy Dogs for children with special needs. Seizure Response Dogs assist their partner by going to find help during a seizure. Facility Dogs provide love and companionship to patients at hospitals and nursing homes. Hawaii Canines for Independence also assists Hawaii residents in applying for Guide Dogs and Hearing Dogs.

Hawaii Canines for Independence reaches hundreds of people in the community each week through a variety of Community Outreach Programs designed to benefit, support and enhance the lives of people with physical and developmental disabilities in our community.
